Lot Title:
1722 Rosa Americana Penny, 'Utile Dulci', Breen-115. NGC VF-30 Brown.
Description:
This distinct variety depicts only one rosette following the date in the reverse legend. Because it is extremely scarce in comparison with the normally encountered two rosette variety, it is attributed as being Rare by Walter Breen. The planchets used were cast from a brass composition of 75% copper, 24.7% zinc, and .3% silver. This alloy proved to be inadequate for this intended coinage. This particular specimen's surfaces are above average for the grade, showing only a slight porosity on its medium brown aspect. Both motifs are predominantly sharp for its designated condition.
