Lot Title:
1794 O-101, R-4. NCS VG Details, Repaired, Whizzed.
Description:
This prestigious first year of issue half dollar still captures a high degree of desirability, even though its surfaces have undergone a transformation from their original state. Some overzealous scratches are observed on the Eagle's breast, no doubt the outcome to remove an unsightly blemish. The pale gray centers are surrounded by deeper gray shades giving it a better visual aspect than its label would suggest. When viewed at an angle, faint hairlines are perceived on its obverse. The obverse's rim is weak between 3:30 and 7:00, with no dentils present. Diagnostic to this variety are the 21 reverse berries on the wreath, 10 left and 11 right. This later die state shows a fine die break from the rim through the "F" to a pair of leaves. Although it’s a common die marriage by variety, all 1794 half dollars are prevalently scarce.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Obverse details probably border on VG sharpness. The rim is practically full, falling of the flan along the right side where slightly improper centering kept it from ever being strong in the first... |

1794 (O-104, R.5) NCS VG details/environmental damage.
Nine berries left, and ten right quickly attribute O-104, an R.5 die-marriage. Surfaces have the somewhat rough look of a ground find, yet the "environmental damage" noted by the NCS holder is not... |

1794 (O-101a, R.4) Good/obverse scratch.
Good/obverse scratch is accurately descriptive, although the supposed "scratch" is of minor consequence in the center of Liberty's upper tresses. As a near-miss for the full "very-good" grade,... |
