Lot Title:
1842-C Large Date. ANACS F-15.
Description:
A seldom found date from this highly regarded southern mint. Two varieties were produced this year, Small Date and Large Date, having a combined mintage of 27,432 pieces. Walter Breen estimated a mintage of 23,589 for the Large Date issue. Its original, uncleaned surfaces are blanketed with a deep brown-gold hue. Although apparently overtaxed from commercial usage, as evidenced by some reverse circulation marks, it is still a handsome, desirable example.
