(About The Images)
1851-O PCGS XF-45. 1851-O PCGS XF-45.
Lot Title: 1851-O PCGS XF-45.
Description: Neosho Collection. Mintage: 315,000. Very delicate hairlines swirl and crisscross over the surface, but one can presume they are mostly of incidental origin and certainly very old as the whole coin presently displays delightful mustard-gold patina overall. New Orleans struck double-eagles on thirteen different occasions, but 1851-O seems to be the most available of the possible dates. Some examples will show poor production quality as is often noted for O-mint dollars, but not so this well-defined and bold example. Every star displays full definition (aside from wear), and pleasing sharpness still embraces the hair details. (PCGS# 008905)

The attrition rate of early gold double-eagles was much higher than that of later pieces, so even with plenty of wear, an 1851-O is a scarce coin. This example is honestly worn with no damage, but a...
