Lot Title:
1851-O AU-50.
Description:
From the second year of issue for this denomination from this mint. A mere 315,000 were minted. Survivors are normally encountered in lesser grade levels. Its handsome yellow-gold aspect is charmingly vibrant, and its surfaces glisten with much of its original luster being retained. There are perceived circulation marks, but none of these are too significant for this heavy denomination. For an issue that is usually soft in strike, the stars are distinctly delineated.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Neosho Collection. Mintage: 315,000. Very delicate hairlines swirl and crisscross over the surface, but one can presume they are mostly of incidental origin and certainly very old as the whole coin... |

1851-O F, cleaned.
The attrition rate of early gold double-eagles was much higher than that of later pieces, so even with plenty of wear, an 1851-O is a scarce coin. This example is honestly worn with no damage, but a... |
