Lot Title:
1886 Type 1. NGC MS-64 RB.
Description:
Kilo-Volt Kollection. The bottom feather points between "IC", affirming attribution as "type 1". A popular misconception states that the portrait was modified, thus resulting in a slight change of placement for that feather, but in fact, the portrait was never changed. Rather, lettering for "OF AMERICA" was engraved slightly higher on some 1886 dies (and all dies thereafter), accounting for the relative shift in positioning. Deep copper-red competes with intriguing denim-blue patina for space on this attractive MS-64 RB example. (PCGS# 002155)
