Lot Title:
1786 Connecticut (Miller 8.9-Q, R.5) F.
Description:
Rare as a Connecticut variety, Miller 5.9-Q also qualifies as a member of the other Miller varieties sharing this same obverse that are called out separately in the Redbook as "bust left". These are always struck with low relief which certainly adds challenge to any viewer's grading skills, but we come away from this one confident that "fine" is a sensible measure of the overall boldly delineated details and rather pleasing, finely textured matte surfaces. The date falls perilously close to the bottom edge of the reverse, but remains entirely legible nonetheless, thanks to a well-centered planchet. (PCGS# 000331)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
