Lot Title:
1849-C Closed Wreath. NGC XF-45.
Description:
Far more common than the "open wreath" for Charlotte, but it would be tough to imagine a more originally preserved example of this lovely 1849-C "closed wreath" dollar. The entire surface displays pleasing dull ruddy-gold texture that only remains if the coin somehow survives 165 years without being cleaned, as this one has. The obverse shows the expected flat details even seen on UNC examples, while the reverse features surprisingly good striking relief for the wreath details. (PCGS# 007505)
