Lot Title:
1849 Oregon Exchange Company $5 (Kagin-1) NGC AU-53.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Kagin-1, R.5. A very popular motif for pioneer gold collectors, the beaver shows acceptable details for the AU grade level, given that these are always erratically struck. Some minor textural details do show in the beaver's hide, and the crude legends have been fairly brought up throughout. The reverse bears a considerable number of tiny contact marks, as is commonly the case for these unalloyed gold coins. Pedigree can be identified for this coin upon discovery of a looping threadlike strikethrough at the bottom of the denomination side. (PCGS# 010288)
