Lot Title:
Pollock-3293: (1867) Cent Pattern Uniface Die Trial Splasher, lead (?), NGC.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Apparently struck in lead, this die-trial was referenced but not plated in the Judd book. A Roman "I" surrounded by a wreath crowned by a star, all in relief, appears on the struck side, the other being blank (with "rough" texture). Dull grey overall, with small scratches that no doubt proved easy to impart via minor mishandling over time due to the very soft lead metal. NGC MS-61, R.9 (apparently unique).
