(About The Images)
Judd-1420: 1875 Trade Dollar Pattern, silver, NGC. Judd-1420: 1875 Trade Dollar Pattern, silver, NGC.
Lot Title: Judd-1420: 1875 Trade Dollar Pattern, silver, NGC.
Description: Avant Garde Collection. The reverse die is simply that of a "no motto" Seated Liberty dollar from perhaps a decade earlier, mated to this very popular trade dollar pattern obverse. In some sense, this would be a logical choice since the pattern obverse already bears the IGWT motto, superseding any need for the motto to be repeated on the reverse. The obverse was also mated with a true pattern reverse, and trade dollar reverse dies, for subsequent Judd listings, adding marvelous variety to this series of pattern dollars. Examples struck in copper or aluminum are also known, with these silver pieces probably the most available of all struck. Fields show light hairlines and some haziness, while the details are struck to an amazing level of sharpness. NGC PF-64, Rarity 7+. (PCGS# 061727)
