Lot Title:
Judd-1162: 1871 Gold Dollar Proof, aluminum, NGC CAC.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. This and the preceding Judd-1161 are struck off the same production dies, with Judd-1162 struck on an aluminum planchet instead of copper. Trivial pest affects the surfaces and is of course the source of small milky areas on the coin, but the coin nonetheless retains rather pleasing eye-appeal. Real world experience and certified population both suggest that this die-trial truly is as scarce as published estimates imply. NGC PF-64 CAM (CAC), Rarity 8.
