Lot Title:

Judd-659: 1868 Dual Denomination Half Eagle, aluminum, PCGS CAC.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Dies are attributed to Paquet for this dual-denomination piece, struck in aluminum, with the plain edge differentiating this from Judd-658. The reverse bears a passing resemblance to contemporary French coinage -- for example, the gold 5-francs then in production. The obverse motif shows Liberty in portraiture that certainly suggests French aesthetic influence. A well-preserved gem example that displays scant evidence of trivial hairlines only, along with an oxidation layer that modestly inhibits cameo contrast. PCGS PF-65 CAM, Rarity 7. (PCGS# 060877)
