Lot Title:
Judd-599: 1867 Half Eagle Proof, copper, NGC.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Between them, the certification services have only seen only two grading events for the 1867 off-metal half-eagle pattern, both at NGC, and evidently, this is the only piece struck in copper. Dies match up perfectly to those put into production, although the reverse detail displays noticeable softness at the eagle's neck, and the sharpness overall for the coin seems reminiscent of a circulation strike and not a proof. Several scattered tiny ticks provide evidence of minor handling. NGC PF-58, Rarity 7+.
