Lot Title:
Judd-593: 1867 Seated Dollar Proof, brass, PCGS.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. Interpolating information from various sources suggests that perhaps five or six pieces are known. Careful examination of the coin itself readily confirms the use of standard obverse and reverse dies, and only the off-metal striking in brass marks the difference between this and a proof silver dollar. Of course, that singular characteristic leads to instant departure from the appearance of a normal silver dollar. This coin glows with a very unusual, brassy beige color that expresses some minor abrading in the fields, along with unmistakable chartreuse-green iridescence. A pair of carbon spots flung off to the left pedigree this specific example. PCGS PF-63, Rarity 7+. (PCGS# 060805)
