Lot Title:

Judd-134: 1852 Seated Dollar Proof, copper, silver-plated, NCS.
Description:
Avant Garde Collection. The 1852 half-dollar and silver-dollar are both very difficult acquisitions in their respective series for either circulation strike or proof format, and it is easy to understand the appeal of the extremely rare die-trail proof dollars struck in copper. This one has been plated (in silver evidently), and one wonders whether that may have been done in order to create a stand-in for someone's past silver dollar collection. As struck in proof format, details have been brought up to exceptional clarity, though some high relief areas appear to have become slightly worn, allowing underlying copper metal to peek through, especially on the reverse. NGC (NCS) Proof details, Rarity 7+. (PCGS# 011570)
