C Bechtler Gold $1 (Kagin-2), 28 grain, High. PCGS AU-55.
Description:
Eunice Peters Estate. Fantastic from an aesthetic perspective, both sides present unusually pleasant semi-prooflike luster, very rarely seen from a Bechtler dollar and desirable as such. This despite five points of wear over delicate surfaces! Greatly enhancing the visual appeal, both sides have developed rich pomegranate-gold toning within and lying outside the peripheral devices, framing the simple design in a classic antique motif. On top of everything else, the Kagin-2 warrants an R.6 rarity estimate, consolidating the entire package into a rarified gift to the numismatic community. At one time, the Kagin-2 was thought to have only a handful of pieces or so known, but the age of certification brought to light a number of previously unattributed examples. A fabulous coin, and one that is virtually unknown, even today, at or above the Choice AU level. (PCGS# 010061)
