Lot Title:
1800 Heraldic Eagle. PCGS AU-58.
Description:
Classic Mustang Collection, Mintage: 37,628. Advent of the nineteenth century oversaw continuing mint production of the Capped Bust, Right half-eagle, though no dates were produced in large quantity, and any finer AU example should command a five figure price. 1800 is one date in the series for which only a single variety need be collected, as other dates saw varying logotypes or overdates that warrant collection of multiple sub-types. The PCGS AU-58 grade reflects fairly strong details that show incompleteness due more to strike than wear. We note some intriguing ruddy gold patina splashed into the obverse and outer reverse fields. As with all our consignor's items, this coin comes back to the market after several years' absence, having been in his set since 2007. (PCGS# 008082)
