Lot Title:
1838-C PCGS VF-30.
Description:
Classic Mustang Collection, Mintage: 17,100. Several factors account for the popularity of 1838-C, beginning with the notion that it is the undisputed key to the Classic Head half-eagle series, stemming in part from a fairly low mintage. Collectors also treasure the unusual obverse mintmark and enjoy the historic value as the first-of-issue from the famed Charlotte mint. Tough to find in any grade, choice examples are particularly scarce, and even this mustard-gold VF-30 shows the innumerable micro-ticks that seem to affect just about every example on the market. Fortunately, each side retains fair definition given the moderate wear, and a faint touch of luster still remains on the reverse. (PCGS# 008177)
