Lot Title:
1838-C NGC VF-35.
Description:
Besides being the only "classic head" half-eagle struck at Charlotte, the 1838-C is the key to the series, with a mintage of just 17,179 pieces further diminished by a poor survival rate. Offered here is an unusually nice example that bears smooth, problem free surfaces with excellent, original quality. Indeed, the only marks of any mention are a few very shallow depressions on Liberty's cheek, and they are easily commensurate with the assigned grade of VF-35. Your cataloger is in perfect agreement with that grade, as this coin benefits from a good strike and plenty of bold detail. A coin that is unquestionably worthy of consideration.
