Lot Title:
1903 PCGS PF-68CAM CAC.
Description:
4 graded PF-68 CAM, none higher at PCGS. A staggering beauty queen, this cameo proof quarter immediately looks like it could be one of the prettiest proof quarters in existence, and PCGS statistics bear that out. None has graded higher with any proof designation of any kind, and for that matter, as a type, exactly TWO proof Barber quarters in the entire series have ever achieved a higher grade. But what good is "grade" if a coin lacks pizzazz? That question does not apply here, as the coin simply blasts off with color like molten gold, and contrasting texture that looks every bit of the cameo designation. Shallow die polishing of the portrait along the lower jaw line banishes thoughts of a dcam designation, but nobody is going to care when a coin has this much technical appeal. As required, the details are struck to an amazing level of precision, making this a premier choice for proof type for the collector with a taste for finest quality. For pedigree purposes, we note a single tiny carbon fleck near the corner of Liberty's eye. (PCGS# 085689)

By 1903, proof coinage of the Barber series was definitely on the downside of the cameo-era, since very few examples of any of the three denominations are certified at the "CAM" level (much less the... |
