Lot Title:
1918-S 8/7, PCGS Genuine, XF details/cleaning.
Description:
XF detail greets the viewer with the expected weakness seen toward the lower left area of the shield, while the balance of Liberty's motif displays pleasing, bold sharpness. PCGS correctly designates this a "cleaned" coin, with the surfaces showing a number of subdued hairlines crisscrossing the obverse; the reverse shows lighter abrading. Considerable muted dove-grey patina has already recovered over much of the coin, though highpoint details remain rather devoid of toning. Regardless of any disclaimer, the all-important overdate feature remains bold as can be. (PCGS# 005726)

Battleship-grey surfaces present well for a Standing Liberty quarter of mid-grade -- neither too dark to be appreciated, nor too light to be of questionable origin. A bit of scoop at Liberty's head... |
