Lot Title:
1918/17-S NGC VF-30.
Description:
Battleship-grey surfaces present well for a Standing Liberty quarter of mid-grade -- neither too dark to be appreciated, nor too light to be of questionable origin. A bit of scoop at Liberty's head suggests that this was never going to be a full-head candidate, yet overall definition is very reasonable, with most of the shield rivets present, and the crucial overdate feature as bold as can be. Neither mark nor stain detracts from the presentation, and the reverse displays a deft touch of faint luster in the fields. A coin that fits well into any set and does not draw undue attention to itself, other than for the esteemed overdate feature. (PCGS# 395949)

In high grade, the 1918/7-S overdate has few peers among twentieth-century hubbing blunders for the aspects of drama and presentation. Presence of the underdigit "7" in this case benefits from use of... |
