Lot Title:
1860 $5 CLARK-GRUBER. NGC AU details/damaged.
Description:
Impressive luster for the AU details level coruscates through the fields and even envelopes the devices to shimmering effect. By intent, the privately issued Clark-Gruber half-eagle bears strong resemblance to a Federal issue, and this would be a rather well struck example emitted from any mint, Federal or otherwise. NGC suggests "damaged", and this disclaimer undoubtedly references twin digs in the field just in front of Liberty's (or is Clark & Co.'s?) face. (PCGS# 010136)

1860 Clark, Gruber & Co. "Pike's Peak" half-eagle, XF.
The eagle and double-eagle Clark, Gruber and Co. issues bear a pyramid shaped depiction of Pike's Peak, but the quarter-eagle and half-eagle more closely emulate their respective Federal denominations... |
