Lot Title:
1907-O PCGS AU-53.
Description:
Toning pattern overall had to have been caused by the coin being taped into an album many years ago. A broad rectangle straight across the obverse shows much less toning than the upper and lower crescents, which feature strong iridescence, and the reverse is entirely toned over. Evidence of tape residue remains rather prominent and likely should have been conserved prior to encapsulation, but that doesn't take away at all from the "coolness factor". (PCGS# 006510)

I am glad the guy who cleaned the 1870-S $5.00 gold piece in this sale didn't get his hands on this original beauty. That guy is still on coin collecting probation, and will be for a long time if I... |
