Lot Title:
1798 5 Lines, 10 Arrows. VF details/cleaned.
Description:
Moderate hairlines scribbled across the obverse indicate purposeful cleaning, although the reverse seems to have escaped for the most part. Fortunately, someone was astute enough to leave the coin in an album for some time, allowing a little bit of earth tone color to creep into the peripheral areas, with the reverse starting to show some nicer bull's-eye color. E PLURIBUS UNUM is fully readable, and the eagle shows plenty of details in the feathers, suggesting a better sharpness level of about VF-30. (PCGS# 006876)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

It is a little ironic that some advanced collectors (however one wishes to interpret that term) have learned through experience that often, a wonderfully original coin in lower grade can prove to be... |
