Lot Title:
Nine better date New Orleans half-dimes.
Description:
Dispersed from a consignor's complete set, here is a group of much tougher half-dimes from the New Orleans mint. Every single coin without fail has a readable LIBERTY, making this a laborious lot to duplicate on a coin-by-coin effort. The coins are listed as: 1838-O "no stars" (VF, but there are several horizontal graffiti scratches surrounding the date), 1840-O (F, supremely original but "LI" a bit faint), 1842-O (VF, decent with a few irrelevant pinpricks on the obverse), 1850-O (VF-30, nice and the consignor states this was removed from an old NGC slab at the same grade), 1852-O (VF, with a faint old scratch on the reverse), 1854-O (VF, and nearly fully XF), 1856-O (VF, but just barely and a trifle pale), 1857-O (VF and rather nice), and 1858-O (VF). No coin has any blatantly obvious surface issues, aside from what has been briefly mentioned. Nine coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
