Lot Title:
1846 NGC AU-50.
Description:
One becomes so used to seeing the very common late-date issues in the quarter-eagle series that an earlier era's 1846 seems highly unusual. Still, it usually is lumped into the "common" category. Interestingly enough, mintage for this date was only 21,500, which is absolutely paltry compared to the enormous output of twentieth century emissions. That will make it appeal to those who collectors who enjoy limited-production coins. Surfaces are overly bright for a coin of this age (even a gold one), but there is noticeable far-flung luster on either side, and details are reasonably sharp. (PCGS# 007740)
