Lot Title:
1787 GEORGIVS III Machin's Mills. PCGS VF-30.
Description:
Surprisingly well detailed for a coin struck with illicit purposes in mind, the surfaces are also probably a touch "nicer" than intended by the perpetrators, as these were originally struck so as to look already-circulated right off the dies. Under close scrutiny, the microporosity always expected of the type is evident, although the delicate consistency offers some matte texture that is rather appealing. The obverse surface displays deep walnut-brown coloration with virtually no contrast, although the peripheral lettering is surrounded by a shadow of slightly deeper tone. Just a hint of pleasing pecan contrast on the high relief of the reverse leads to slightly better eye appeal on that side. (PCGS# 000469)
