Lot Title:
|
1880 SEGS AU-50.
|
Description:
|
The consignor had this nickel personally attributed by John Dannreuther, and subsequently sent to SEGS for attribution based on his opinion, a rare service that perhaps only SEGS might implement! (However, it should be noted that they spelled John's name incorrectly on the slab insert.) The grade of AU-50 looks very reasonable, with the fields exhibiting slight reflectivity and details showing excellent definition. A nice original coin that seems very crossable to any other grading service, although Scotsman cannot guarantee success in any way shape or form. Rare as a circulation strike, and from the Korn Kob Kollection. (PCGS# 003810)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Campania Estate. Mintage: 16,000. A case could be made for the F-12 grade on the reverse, but the obverse shows a bit of merging between IGWT and the upper rim - one characteristic of the 1880... |

Surface quality is utterly pristine, with not a single carbon spot on the obverse, and only a tiny one on the reverse. The cameo effect is technically only average, but benefits from a peach-gold... |

Mild steel blue color energizes this gorgeous type coin. The excellent cameo contrast is particularly enjoyable on a vintage type coin such as this, and delivers the appropriate appearance of a... |
