Lot Title:
1806 Round 6, 7x6 Stars, Heraldic Eagle PCGS Genuine (AU details/ex-jewelry/code 98).
Description:
As usual, the goopy slab insert hides the edge, and likely disguises an edge aberration that led PCGS to the "ex-jewelry" disclaimer. Otherwise, the surfaces merely appear to be cleaned, albeit rather heavily so. Apparently, someone in the past needed to verify gold content, and did so by X-ing each obverse field. AU details, or close to it. (PCGS# 008089)

Anymore, the opportunity to buy uncertified early gold with visual appeal seldom comes about. This is such an opportunity, an 1806 "knobbed 6" half-eagle with good eye appeal, good original surface... |
