Lot Title:
1805 (C-4) Large Italic 5, Stems. PCGS AU-55 (green label).
Description:
Although cleaned long ago and recolored, the overall chocolate-bronze eye-appeal is definitely nicer than one might expect, given the remnants of luster that stubbornly remain on both sides. Flowline texture toward the peripheral areas is most noticeable on the reverse, where there is plenty of satiny frost protected by the legends. Needless to say, the detail is just about "all there", given the PCGS AU-55 level, with Liberty's hair strands entirely present, albeit with the expected light rub. Neither side displays any mentionable marks. (PCGS# 001090)

Both of the 1805 half-cents are attributed as C-4, but the disparity in grade is obvious. That graded XF-45 has very sharp details and even hints of luster to accompany mahogany-brown patina, but... |

1805 Large 5 - Stems (C-4, R.2). PCGS XF-45.
The large "5" touches the drapery, with stems on the reverse, and for die-state II, the chip in the left field clearly visible. Superior quality for a commercial XF-45 grade, with a fine, clean... |
