1794 Lettered Edge (S-57) ANACS VF-20 details/corroded, and a 1798 (S-182, R.3+)Second Hair Style, F-12 details/corroded.
Description:
The 1794 S-57 is incorrectly listed as "1795 Lettered Edge" on the ANACS insert, though the details grade is easily commensurate for the definition seen on the obverse. This is actually a great coin given the "corroded" disclaimer, since the surface issues are relegated to the reverse, and even so, the roughness is not that bad at all. S-57 is not scarce, but any 1794 that looks this nice deserves better attention than what is suggested by the grade. The 1798 S-182 is significantly scarcer, with both ANACS descriptors of "Fine details" and "corroded" accurate. The color is actually quite pleasing, but a loupe reveals not only crumbly surface texture, but also some odd, lengthy striations in the fields. Two coin lot.
