Lot Title:
1794 Head of 1793 (S-17a, R.5) ANACS F-15 (laminations).
Description:
Laminations parallel the diagonal direction of streaky toning on the obverse, and this could be deemed distracting by some collectors. Those who enjoy original early copper will not be offended at all, however, since the coin actually displays strong planchet quality aside from that, including nice, smooth natural nut-brown coloration on the reverse. Strangely, the raised portions of the planchet disrupt part of the word LIBERTY, especially at "ERTY", the effect very similar to that of an overstruck coin! That being said, this is a later die-state, characterized by a strong die clash on both sides. (PCGS# 001362)
