Lot Title:
1857-S ANACS AU details/graffiti/net XF-40.
Description:
Graffiti really amounts to some scribbles below Liberty's lowest curls, somewhat resembling "MFD". Some luster remains in the protected areas near the edge, calling to duty the ANACS AU details grade. The first three digits are characteristically weak in the date, but general definition is actually very good overall. Any collector who can overlook the scribbles (which are not that blatant, after all) should find excellent value for this, a somewhat scarcer date in the series. (PCGS# 007977)

1857-S ANACS AU-50.
All San Francisco three-dollar gold coins are relatively scarce (except perhaps 1856-S), and become expensive in mint state grades; thus the AU level becomes very attractive to collectors. This... |
