(About The Images)
1857 PCGS AU-58. 1857 PCGS AU-58.
Lot Title: 1857 PCGS AU-58.
Description: Interesting die-polish lines sweep diagonally from northwest to southeast across the obverse, and inflect the cartwheels with meandering action, while horizontal die-polish affects the reverse in similar fashion. There wispy curving hairlines in the fields, but really no other trace of wear, making this a true "slider" AU-58, and probably a commercial BU coin in years past. One contact mark on the upper cheek and another floating in the obverse left field do not detract. (PCGS# 007976)

446The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$800.00
1857 XF.
Strong for the XF grade, and probably preserved near the high end of that range, as there is still meaningful luster attached to some details. Neither side of this blonde-gold coin has any...
1016The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$875.00
1857 AU details/cleaned.
Scant signs of hairlines are visible mostly on the reverse, although quite a bit of luster remains, indicative of a moderate cleaning. 1857 is one of the common dates in the three-dollar gold series,...
997The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$500.00
1857 ANACS AU-55 Details, Altered Surfaces.
Some sort of weird surface alteration, probably involving extreme heat, was applied in an attempt to remove two deep scratches in the left obverse field. The net result is a coin that is extremely...
998The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$3,252.00
1857 NGC MS-61.
A wonderfully lustrous example of an issue that is quite elusive in Mint State. Opulent orange-gold coloration permeates from its satinlike surfaces. Evidence of die clashing is perceived on its...
1071The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$1,150.00
1857 AU-55.
This is a relatively low mintage issue with only 20,891 pieces struck. Both the obverse and reverse surfaces are lightly reflective, having a good amount of luster intact. Only a trivial number of...
