Lot Title:
1852-O NGC AU details/scratched.
Description:
Plainly stated, this double-eagle belongs in a straight-grade holder. The "scratch" alleged by NGC is scarcely more than a hairline projecting downward from Liberty's chin, and it has NO significant impact on the eye-appeal for a lightly circulated coin. On the contrary, razor sharp details and a little luster with slightly prooflike tendencies are sufficient to make this a desirable piece. Though considered one of the "common" New Orleans issues of the era, 1852-O is obtainable really only up to the lower AU level, as it is downright rare at AU-58, and unheard of in mint state.
