Lot Title:
1850-O XF details/ex-jewelry.
Description:
Ex-Stack's, The Orlando Sale, 1/5/2009: 1165. The Stack's catalog mentioned filing on "the reverse rim between 4:00 and 6:00", but in fact that side has seen the entire rim smoothed, and opposing rim bruises at 12:00 and 6:00 suggest the coin was mounted for use as jewelry at one time. That would help explain the glossy surface, which has seen multiple cleaning occasions. Still, 1850-O is popular as the inaugural double-eagle for New Orleans, and this one exhibits near-AU definition. (PCGS# 008903)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
