Lot Title:
1652 (Noe-16) Pine Tree, Small Planchet. PCGS AU-50.
Description:
Olive-pearl patina is confronted with some lead-grey toning, mostly in lower relief areas, providing medium visual contrast. The legends and devices are crisp and more legible than usual, except for what little has fallen southeast off the obverse flan due to improper centering. The design is better aligned on the reverse (date side). For a Massachusetts coin of this age, the surfaces are almost unbelievably free from marks, abrasions or scratches, and even hairlines are essentially absent, save a couple so trivial as to defy location. A wonderful relic of one of the original colonies in its infancy, and a truly high-quality coin. (PCGS# 000024)
