Lot Title:
1952-S George Washington Carver. PCGS MS-67 (rattler).
Description:
A near-twin in an NGC holder recent appeared at auction in the same grade, which is a fairly remarkable occurrence since between them, PCGS and NGC have certified only nine coins at MS-67, with zero higher! An extraordinary confluence between emerald-green and ash-rose iridescence blankets the entire coin, the former color gaining the upper hand on the obverse, while the reverse is equally divided between the adversaries. Needless to say, the surface quality is utterly astonishing, as befits a coin at the MS-67 grade level. There is not a blemish to be noted on either side. Classic commemorative collectors tend to pay little attention to the Washington-Carver series, as examples are all-too-frequently rather blah, but that rule of thumb is turned on its ear by this amazing exception to the norm.
