Lot Title:
1851-O PCGS AU-53.
Description:
Unknown to many collectors who do not dabble in gold is the fact that 1851-O offers one of the nicest repunched dates in the quarter-eagle series. This really nice, early die-state example exhibits particularly strong evidence of all four digits having been repunched with better spacing to the right of the original inscription. Overall sharpness is somewhat lacking, since these were all struck off of aged dies, and a couple of upper stars are scarcely more than bumps above Liberty's crown. Plenty of luster remains to sustain the assigned grade. (PCGS# 007762)
