Lot Title:

1851-O NGC AU details/improperly cleaned.
Description:
Wine And Dine Collection. From a mintage of 148,000, the 1851-O does not stand as a particularly rare New Orleans date for the quarter-eagle series, but at the AU level, it is substantially more challenging than the common dates (mostly Philadelphia) of the era. Considerable sharpness survives over both sides of this reasonably mark-free example, but the fields have seen some significant abrading, as if erasered during an ill-advised cleaning process. A short scratch beneath the eagle's left (observed) claw might be of fairly recent origin, as it seems significantly shinier than the surrounding toned metal. (PCGS# 007762)
