Lot Title:
1804 Plain 4 - Stems (C-11, R.3+). PCGS XF-45.
Description:
Plain 4, with six berries on the left branch of the wreath and apparently an early die-state. Luster is subdued and details a little more flat than expected of commercial XF-45 details. While the obverse nearly passes as original, both sides are recolored, evidence showing most clearly on the reverse, where angry red tint glowers from the central area. All abrasions seen are minor and compatible with a higher-end circulated half-cent. The condition census is not very high for C-11, and an EAC 20 estimate (accounting for the aforementioned caveats) may bring this example within striking distance of an extended census.
