(About The Images)
1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge, Struck Over TAL Token (C-1, R.2). PCGS VF-20. 1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge, Struck Over TAL Token (C-1, R.2). PCGS VF-20.
Lot Title: 1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge, Struck Over TAL Token (C-1, R.2). PCGS VF-20.
Description: Probably the most blatant "misplaced digit" in all U.S. numismatics, less than half-a-second is required to identify the half-a-cent C-1 die marriage, with "1 above 1" in the date. Splashes of honey-gold tone give the portrait a little better contrast above the oak-brown fields, though the overall effect is a little mottled by comparison to imagined ideals. Evidence of the familiar TAL under type can be seen most prominently in the obverse far right field and just above the peak of Liberty's cap. All details are plenty strong for the grade, including the wildly misplaced digit, which requires no magnification at all for viewing. In fact, sharpness may exceed commercial standards for VF-20.

1797 1 above 1 (C-1, R.2). PCGS VF-30.
B.B. Consignment. The decrepit, old obverse die has progressed to nearly a shattered state, with massive die-cracks now threatening to explode with their progression. An additional network of cracks...

1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge (C-1 R.2). PCGS VF-30.
"1 above 1" with the weary obverse die progressing to a shattered state, since the trisecting die-crack has become even more prominent, and a new network of cracks now extends downward from the point...

1797 Plain Edge (C-1 R.2). NGC AU-50 BN.

255The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$600.00
1797 1 Above 1 struck on TAL Token. ICG F-15.
The 1797 C-1 is a "1 above 1" variety, and simply has to be the most blatant repunched date in U.S. numismatic history. Not only was the initial punching of the "1" a full digit too high, but the...
107The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$390.00
1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge (C-1, R.2). VG.
In all of U.S. numismatics, there surely cannot be a more blatant and grotesquely repunched date than that of the 1797 C-1 half-cent, most often referred to as "1 above 1", since calling it a 1 over 1...
227The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$1,600.00
1797 1 Above 1, Plain Edge, C-1, R-2. PCGS VF-25.
This Manley Die State 2.0 specimen has an appealing tan aspect. While there are no serious marks or blemishes to point out, there is just the slightest hint of granularity and a few toned over, old...
