Lot Title:
1851 (C-1, R.1) NGC MS-63 RB.
Description:
One pair of dies, and probably die-state II. The obverse actually exhibits as 50% mint red, the balance also red but faded, while the reverse could be 90% red! Unfortunately, spots take a toll on the grade, particularly a two moderate obverse stains, including one by the point of the bust, and another at the twelfth star. Quite lustrous for MS-63.

Unheralded in the realm of misplaced and repunched dates is the 1851 C-1 half-cent, which features as grotesque a punching error as that seen on almost any coin; the final "1" in the date was... |
