1795 Lettered Edge, with Pole (C-1, R.2). NGC VF-25 BN.
Description:
LI is noticeably lower than "B" on the obverse, and HALF positioned below the flanking leaves, attributed as C-1, given the lettered edge referenced by NGC. The bulge at AME is just barely coming into view, placing the early die-state IV assessment, and the strike is a little off-center southeast. About eight odd, parallel short tool marks appear between the rim and UNITED, toned like the rest of the coin and mentioned only for completeness. A small gash beneath "TY" and a misfortunate bagmark drooping from the corner of Liberty's eye form the most important abrasions on the obverse. Surfaces display keen hardness and very consistent chocolate brown color from side to side, with no particular evidence of having been "helped" along. A little more contrast would have made this a nearly ideal half-cent, but for type purposes, who's going to complain? The details are bold, with all lettering particularly sharp.

Very attractive walnut-brown surfaces exhibit no impairment of any corrosive nature, and that immediately elevates interest in an early copper type coin like this. A couple of small digs left of the... |
