Lot Title:
1795 Washington Grate Token, (1/2 P) Large Buttons, Reeded Edge. PCGS MS-62 BN.
Description:
Characteristic of the "large coat buttons" Grate token is the rim die crack connecting "FI" of FIRM. Also notable in spite of the slab insert is the fine diagonally reeded edge. An attractive mahogany-brown example, hints of mint reddish-orange can still be seen within the lower recesses of the folds in Washington's collar, and even brighter copper-orange is splashed across the center of the reverse. It is also on this side that a handful of small curving scratches can be found, and they likely limit the numeric grade to MS-62 BN.
