Three reverse dies were used in five New Jersey die-marriages that feature the popular "running fox", which is attributed as a mintmark used by coiner John Bailey in conjunction with the silver and goldsmith, Ephraim Brasher. Having been struck a little off-center and off of misaligned dies, that popular motif is not quite easy to discern on this particular example, but the two-tone effect adds a touch of sharpness, characterized by salmon-tan devices over charcoal-grey fields. Fine microporosity has little to no detrimental effect on the visual appeal, especially considering how many examples have succumbed to corrosion, and moderate roughness is present only on the far right of the obverse.
