(About The Images)
1822 (N-4, R.2) MS-64/rev. scratch/questionable color. 1822 (N-4, R.2) MS-64/rev. scratch/questionable color.
Lot Title: 1822 (N-4, R.2) MS-64/rev. scratch/questionable color.
Description: Amazingly crisp luster percolates around all the fields, but its debatable how much of the eye-catching effect is as-struck, since the oddly "bright-yet-dark" olive-pink color is clearly not original. Even so, this would be a delightful coin to own since the details are sharp and uncirculated (indeed, many commercial uncirculated examples of N-4 are known). Unfortunately, in addition to questionable color, a small scribble of scratches in the vicinity of "T" in CENT must be considered when formulating a shrewd bid.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1822 (N-4, R.2) XF.
Sharpness is about XF-45, yet surprisingly, a trace of mint red still adheres to the portrait and a couple of stars. A brief die crack above "1" connects the point of the bust to the rim and will...

Remarkably sharp for an early 1820s large-cent, with finely detailed hair strands and pleasing definition in the wreath. Overly glossy surfaces appear to have been lightly polished then recolored...
