Lot Title:
1843-C Large Date. AU details/scratched.
Description:
The "large date" is the more available version of 1843-C, and features one of the nicer repunched mintmarks in U.S. coins. With a mintage of 23 thousand pieces, it is not rare, but can be difficult to locate in AU or better. This example displays subtle luster in protected areas, but details are flat, as is normally the case for Charlotte gold. Unfortunately, both sides are scratched, with a long hairline etched over Liberty's lower neck, and a number of short, blunt scratches appear on the reverse. AU-50 details or so.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

1843-C Large Date. PCGS XF-45.

Modestly conserved perhaps, as the surfaces don't have much of the "dirt and grime" expected of 15 points wear, but who cares? Luster still lurks near the rims, and for sure, no unsightly... |
